Monument Valley is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes. It is located on the Arizona–Utah Border and is the most famous example of the classic American West landscape. Monument Valley has been featured in many movies since ... the 1930s.Director John Ford used the location for a number of his best-known films. Alongside John Wayne's films, the Valley has also been the backdrop for numerous other famous Western movies, like as Back to the Future 3 and Forrest Gump. In the words of critic Keith Phipps, “its five square miles [13 square kilometers] have defined what decades of moviegoers think of when they imagine the American West. The view of the three major buttes (West Mitten, East Mitten, and Merrick Butte) is the top highlight and best photographed from Lookout Point in the evening when the sun's low-angled rays hit to intensify the red hues of the buttes.
