Fatu Hiva is the southernmost island of the Marquesas Islands, in French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. It is also the most isolated of the inhabited islands with 587 inhabitants (August 2007 census) in an area of 85 km2.It has no landing strip and boats are the only way of access. It is generally ... considered as the most authentic of the Marquesas Islands and also the most beautiful one with its lush tropical, craggy landscape. There are only two villages located on the west coast, and across-island road joins these two villages of Hanavavae and Omoa. The western coastline has two significant bays. Hana Vave (also known as Bay of Virgins, one of the most picturesque sites in the South Pacific) in the north, and the well-protected harbor of Omoa near the south.
